New app use mandatory for driving licenses

The Department of Land Transport (DLT) is cracking down on security, rolling out mandatory identity checks with the ThaID app from Nov. 1 for anyone booking driving license and vehicle registration slots.

Seksom Akkharaphan, the deputy director-general and official spokeperson of the DLT, announced the new pre-booking system. International Series resumes at Black Mountain starting tomorrow

After a two-month break in the schedule, The International Series resumes play this week in Thailand with a six-tournament sprint to the finish for the 2024 series. At stake is a coveted spot in next year’s LIV Golf League.

Cabinet approves aid package for flood victims in 50 provinces

The cabinet approved a package to help flood victims yesterday, both individuals and businesses in 50 provinces, which includes tax exemptions, soft loans, debt moratoria, interest rate cuts and loan guarantees.

Government spokesman Jirayu Huangsap said that the rehabilitation package is on top of the 9,000 baht one-time financial help provided by the government to about 67,000 households impacted by flooding this year. Continued …

Heavy rain sparks landslide warnings in southern Thailand

The Flood, Storm, and Landslide Disaster Relief Operations Center has issued warnings to residents in nine southern provinces, as heavy rains move southward, increasing the risk of landslides. Jirayu Huangsap, the spokesperson for the center, reported that provinces at risk are Phuket, Krabi, Trang, Satun, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Narathiwat, and Yala.

Video: Elephant overturns vehicle with the driver inside

An elephant overturned a pickup truck on the side of the road with the driver inside, as it is believed that the latter did not wait for the animal to cross the road. The incident happened about 128 kilometers east of the capital Bangkok in rural Chachoengsao province Saturday evening.

The incident shocked nearby drivers, who said the incident was so frightening they thought they were going to “have a heart attack”, as they drove back and called emergency services. The elephant disappeared into the jungle before wildlife rangers arrived. Continued and video …

The head of Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Ratchasima Province has responded to recent concerns about regulating tourist behavior around wild elephants, following incidents where visitors approached the animals too closely to take photos, endangering both themselves and the elephants.

Chaiya Huayhongthong, head of Khao Yai National Park, announced improvements to the park’s elephant monitoring and repelling systems. Thailand must urgently adjust its tax structure and increase tax participation to address future expenses related to its aging population, according to Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat.
