Residents bemoan ongoing problem of burning trash

Persistent burning of waste in the Smorprong area continues to be a thorn in the side for local residents, whom claim their pleas for help from authorities have fallen on deaf ears.

According to one resident of the area, “I have reported this to the authorities who went to the temple to ask the monks to stop. Monks said no and that they have no choice as trucks keep dumping up there everyday. The guy from the government then said there was nothing more that could be done! “ Continued …

Heavy rain forecast for much of Thailand

The Thai Meteorological Department is forecasting very heavy rain for 57 provinces, with an 80% chance of rain for Bangkok today.

The continuing heavy rainfall is caused by the strong monsoon influences over the lower northern, upper central, and northeastern regions of Thailand. Additionally, the monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand is contributing to moderate to heavy rain coverage, affecting various parts of the country, including the eastern region. Continued …

Tablets for students plan resurrected

The Thai Education Ministry is set to revive a decade-old initiative, which was originally launched by a previous Pheu Thai government, to distribute a tablet computer to each student and teacher across the country. This initiative aims to promote equal educational opportunities.

The announcement was made yesterday by Education Minister Permpoon Chidchob and his deputy, Surasak Phancharoenworakul, both members of the Bhumjaithai Party in the Pheu Thai-led coalition. Illegal Thai gun owners given 30 days to ‘trigger’ compliance

In an attempt to crack down on illegal firearm possession, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin drafted a 30-day amnesty for gun owners without permits. They now have a month to turn in these firearms at any police station before stricter enforcement measures are applied.

Apple debuted the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max on Tuesday. Thai consumers will be among the first to access these models, with preorders opening tomorrow and widespread availability from Sept. 22. A new report by HSBC Bank predicts that global demand for durian will surge by up to 400%, driven by a significant increase in durian consumption in China.

“While some may view durian as a fruit with a strong taste, and others complain about its distinctive smell, we anticipate that demand for durian will rise by up to 400% annually, primarily fueled by the growing popularity of durian in China,” HSBC Bank’s ASEAN region economist Aris Dacanay said.
