Two Russians among 10 killed in Phuket landslide

Ten people were killed when their houses were buried by a landslide in Phuket province on Friday. The landslide from the Nakkerd Mountain killed two Russians, six Myanmars and one Thai citizen. As for the 10th deceased, there is no information regarding nationality yet.

Phuket Deputy Gov. Sattha Thongkham and the incident commander for the Nakkerd Mountain landslide disaster in Karon subdistrict, as well as related agencies, have set up a command center near the scene, behind Kata Temple. Continued …

A massive oil slick has been discovered just four nautical miles from Bang Saray Beach, sending shockwaves through the local community and environmental groups. The slick, stretching over two kilometers, was first reported in the afternoon, igniting fears of its impact on marine life and the tourism industry.

The Thai Hotels Assn. (THA) has urged the government of new Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to consider extending the visa waiver policy to foreign visitors in targeted markets, as well as postpone the “landing tax” on foreign arrivals for at least two years.

6 Thai airlines eye fleet expansion as aviation industry bounces back

Several Thailand-based airlines are planning to expand their fleets in the future thanks to the fast recovery of the global aviation industry, which the Covid-19 pandemic had crippled.

According to the International Air Transport Assn. (IATA)’s prediction, global air travelers should rise more than two-fold by 2043, or grow by 3.8% per year.
