Soldier shot, killed at soi 80 bar

A disagreement Sunday morning at an unlicensed Soi 80 Hua Hin pub led to the fatal shooting of Sgt. Major Rojchanaphon Rojchanaphanit, an intelligence officer at Thanarat Camp. The commotion at Tiny Club saw police commissioner Jakkrit Worawongphanitkul allegedly pulling a 9 mm. pistol, fatally shooting Punch and injuring two other patrons.

At approximately 4 am , Hua Hin Police Station received a report about a dispute turning violent in the Tiny Club on Soi Hua Hin 80. Responders, including high-ranking officers and forensic teams, quickly arrived at the chaotic scene littered with broken bottles and a large pool of blood. Continued …

Thai window cleaner falls to death from 31st floor of Bangkok hotel

A Thai window cleaner fell to his death on Saturday after his scaffold gondola platform collapsed and plummeted from the 31st floor of a hotel in Soi Sukhumvit 24, Bangkok.

The body of the window cleaner, 34-year-old Thanu Chanprasert, was discovered in the swimming pool on the seventh floor with a severe open skull wound. A dark blue scaffold gondola platform was found near Thanu’s body, with its sling ropes torn. Continued …

A tragic accident occurred yesterday when a 34-year-old worker at a recycling warehouse in Samut Prakan was crushed to death by a hydraulic paper baler. Hein Naung Oo, a Myanmar national, was found dead after falling into the machine.

Villager Killed by Wild Elephant in Kanchanaburi

A tragic incident occurred last week in Kanchanaburi province when a villager was killed by a wild elephant from the Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary. Another individual, a rescue worker, was injured while trying to guide responders to the scene.

Immigration and the New Government

The shock ousting of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is bound to reverberate in all sorts of directions. But it’s virtually certain that the new Pheu Thai-led administration will get around to immigration and visas sooner rather than later.

Thavisin’s vision was to expand massively the entry and extension opportunities for visa-exempt tourists, while creating a new visa for long-stayers with a lawful activity in mind. Baht set to further strengthen this year despite headwinds

The baht could appreciate further to 35.30 to the U.S. dollar in the short term, after hitting a four-month high of 35.72 early Wednesday, but political instability and deteriorating fiscal positions as a result of the government’s populist policies could limit the Thai currency’s rebound.

First day of digital wallet registration is today

The “Thang Raj” application, which is to be used to register for the government’s 10,000-baht digital wallet handout scheme, was set to be ready for users from 8am today, the first day of registration for those who have smartphones, the Finance Ministry announced.

Factory output falls more than forecast as car output slumps

Thailand’s manufacturing production index dropped 1.71% in June from a year earlier due mainly to lower car production and higher energy costs, the Industry Ministry said on Wednesday, missing analysts’ expectations.

Little by little, the canopy of branches and interlocking leaves closes overhead as our vehicle rollicks deeper into the plantation. Pakamart Tongkam points from the driver’s seat into the stark thicket of rubber trees that now surround us: “When I was a child, I slept out there in a small hut while my mum and dad worked in the plantation through the night.”

Several years later, as an adolescent, Pakamart helped her parents with their daily rubber tapping. The routine was grueling, she says during a visit to Nathawi district in southern Thailand’s Songkhla province, a heartland of rubber production.
