Obtaining a work permit in Thailand is a complex process due to its strict regulations and substantial penalties for violations. Potential issues can vary from misplacing or modifying your work permit without prior notification to the designated authorities to not correctly updating personal detail changes. These errors can unintentionally endanger your work status.

A slight alteration to your personal information can potentially place you in legal difficulty if it is not communicated accurately to the Employment Service. Furthermore, not returning your work permit within seven days after your job resignation can have serious implications. Continued …

Thailand health insurance solutions for long-term visitors

Health insurance is vital for long-term visitors in Thailand, since foreigners typically do not qualify for Thailand’s public health insurance schemes available to locals. Expats and digital nomads should secure private health insurance for access to private healthcare facilities.

For long-term visitors, especially those who do not speak Thai, access to the country’s private healthcare sector is more than just a quality issue. In addition to providing better services and being more well-equipped, private facilities are more likely to have English-speaking staff to cater specifically for tourist’s and expats’ needs. The health of Asian currencies has been making headlines lately. The Japanese yen has depreciated to the lowest in 38 years at 160 to the dollar, leading to reports that the Bank of Japan is signaling moves to reduce liquidity and possibly continue raising interest rates to control inflation and stop the depreciation.

Other Asian currencies also weakened sharply as the dollar has strengthened. The Philippine peso, Korean won and Indian rupee are near historic lows, while the central banks of India, Vietnam and Indonesia have been intervening in the foreign exchange market to support their currencies. Madagascar lemurs, tortoises seized in Thai bust reveal reach of wildlife trafficking

In May, authorities in southern Thailand arrested six people for illegally transporting 48 lemurs and more than 1,200 critically endangered tortoises, all of which had reportedly been obtained from the wild in Madagascar.

The seizure is the latest in a string of illegal wildlife trade busts in Thailand. Red pandas, monitor lizards, snakes and parrots have been uncovered in similar incidents in the country in recent months, for instance. SCB CIO warns of rising concern on economic recession

Kampon Adireksombat, first senior vice president and team head of the SCB Chief Investment Office at Siam Commercial Bank revealed that banks in the United States and Europe are tightening their already stringent lending standards in response to the current financial sector stress, which will likely have a chilling effect on the forthcoming economic and commercial rebound.

The International Monetary Fund has recently estimated that the decreasing lending trend, coupled with the strong impact of interest rates, is expected to hurt the economic growth of both regions, resulting in a decline in GDP of about 0.4% per country. Along the way, it has gradually underlined the importance of a work-life balance to which the new generation can increasingly look forward.

Even though Covid-19 restrictions have eased, more and more employees have been embracing flexible work and enjoying the freedom that enables them to have a healthy work-life balance. They want more of it – not less, and they certainly don’t want to go back to the office full time. Continued …
