Two Russians among 10 killed in Phuket landslide

Ten people were killed when their houses were buried by a landslide in Phuket province on Friday. The landslide from the Nakkerd Mountain killed two Russians, six Myanmars and one Thai citizen. As for the 10th deceased, there is no information regarding nationality yet.

Phuket Deputy Gov. Sattha Thongkham and the incident commander for the Nakkerd Mountain landslide disaster in Karon subdistrict, as well as related agencies, have set up a command center near the scene, behind Kata Temple. Continued …

Thaksin not in control: PM

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra brushed aside criticism that her father, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, is wielding control over her and the new government.

Massive oil slick threatens Sattahip’s shores

A massive oil slick has been discovered just four nautical miles from Bang Saray Beach, sending shockwaves through the local community and environmental groups. The slick, stretching over two kilometers, was first reported in the afternoon, igniting fears of its impact on marine life and the tourism industry.

Bang Saray Community Enterprise for Tourism and Sports Chairperson Udom Jittthanom confirmed the reality after a thorough investigation via speedboat and aerial surveillance. Danish Expat Risks Prison in Thailand Over Lost Car Incident

Søren Nyholm Larsen, a 65-year-old Danish man living in Thailand, faces the possibility of spending a year in one of the country’s infamous prisons due to an unfortunate series of events beginning in October 2023. It all started with a visit to the PhyaThai hospital in Sriracha for routine medical check-ups related to his heart condition and diabetes.

Hotel operators urge government to extend visa waiver policy, postpone landing fee

The Thai Hotels Assn. (THA) has urged the government of new Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to consider extending the visa waiver policy to foreign visitors in targeted markets, as well as postpone the “landing tax” on foreign arrivals for at least two years.

As Thailand’s tourism industry is recovering steadily, levying an arrival tax would greatly discourage foreign tourists, THA President Thienprasit Chaiyapatranun said on Thursday, adding that the measure should be postponed for at least two years. Continued …

6 Thai airlines eye fleet expansion as aviation industry bounces back

Several Thailand-based airlines are planning to expand their fleets in the future thanks to the fast recovery of the global aviation industry, which the Covid-19 pandemic had crippled.

According to the International Air Transport Assn. (IATA)’s prediction, global air travelers should rise more than two-fold by 2043, or grow by 3.8% per year. Thai hotels urge strict mpox screening amid tourism, economy concerns

The Thai Hotels Assn. has urged the Public Health Ministry to implement stringent screening measures for mpox patients to prevent potential disruptions to the tourism industry.

MG partner aims to export first ‘Made in Thailand’ EVs to Europe

SAIC Motor-CP Ltd., which manufactures electric vehicles (EVs) under the MG brand, is aiming to be the first domestic EV-maker to export vehicles to untapped European markets.
