Maybe Thailand should follow Korea and be more selective of expats/tourists

In the wake of a recent discussion on the stringent immigration checks faced by Thai nationals abroad, a torrent of responses has unveiled a disconcerting undertone. It prompts whether to ask if maybe Thailand should go the path of Korea and be more selective of the visa-running, draft dodging, racist, mysoginistic sexpats we let in.

Mandatory electronic submission of payroll tax returns

Vinit Visessuvanapoom, the director-general of the Revenue Department, has announced a new requirement for all employers to submit payroll tax returns electronically. The move is part of an effort to prevent fraudulent tax return forms.

The director-general highlighted that before the department’s notification on income tax No.438, the electronic submission was voluntary. Chiang Mai national park calls for troops to help fight forest fire

With forest fires raging for more than a week, Chiang Mai’s Ob Luang National Park officials have decided to turn to troops from the Third Army Area for help. So far, more than 33,000 rai (5,280 hectares) of forested land in the national park has been destroyed.

Kritsayam Kongsatree, director of the 16th protected zones administration office, said park officials had tried but failed to put out the fires raging for more than a week, mainly because local villagers set them off to harvest wild plants or hunt animals. The Thailand Data Center Council (TDCC) is pushing to establish Thailand as the central hub for data centers in Southeast Asia in the next three years, amid rising competition with foreign data center providers joining the market. The Board of Investment (BoI) confirms that NextDC, an Australian data center operator, obtained BoI approval for a 13.7 billion baht investment in a new hyperscale data center in Bangkok. The Asian data center leader, CtrlS Datacenters, has also leased a land plot in the Eastern Economic Corridor of Digital (EECd) in Chon Buri for 50 years. U.S. paper plate manufacturers have complained, alleging that Thai paper plates are being “dumped” into the U.S. market.

News reports from the Thai Ministry of Commerce indicate that at the end of January 2024, the American Paper Plate Coalition submitted a petition to the U.S. Ministry of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission to request an investigation into an alleged dumping violation of paper plate products originating from Thailand, China, and Vietnam. Rama II highway construction projects said hurting Hua Hin tourism

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has instructed the Transport Ministry to improve the condition of Rama II highway, so people traveling during the long Songkran holidays do not get caught in traffic bottlenecks.

Respondents cited expensive accommodation, the nation’s sluggish economic recovery, and notably, congestion on Rama II Road as prime factors.
