Thailand is moving toward greater tax compliance from the hundreds of thousands of expats living in the kingdom. At the same time, banking facilities at home are being challenged. They are likely to be more expensive as the world acclaims Environmental, Social and Governance values driven by the United Nations 2015 Sustainable Development Goals.

Government agendas and leading firms, including banks, are increasingly dominated by environmental, social, and governance values pushed by bodies such as the United Nations and intergovernmental panels. The trend especially includes the financial industry. Continued …

Mun River’s rise breaches barriers, submerging Thai communities, forcing mass evacuations

The Mun River broke through its sandbag barriers, causing a massive flood that submerged several communities up to 2 meters deep. The river’s relentless rise forced the evacuation of 195 families, while over 400 others continue to live in their flooded homes.

The Mun River’s powerful flow eroded its sandbag barriers yesterday, previously installed by the army, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and the Warin Chamrap Municipality. The barriers were designed to shield low-lying communities such as Thako Pai Village, Had Suan Suk Community, and Dheengam Community from the river’s deluge. Continued …
