Long boat racing returns to Kao Tao Nov 17-19

Khao Tao Reservoir will host the 16th edition of “Long Boat Racing for River Masters” between Nov. 17-19. Participants from all over Thailand are expected to compete across four boat categories.

The event will feature traditional Lao vessels, ancient long boats, Naga head long boats from Nan province, and iron long boats from Buriram.

This competition is organized by Hua Hin municipality, the Thai PBS television station and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth).

Long boat races on Pranburi River Nov. 26

A second longboat racing event will take place on Pranburi River on Nov. 26, following the longboat races on the Kao Tao Reservoir a week earlier. Teams from all over Thailand are expected to participate.

Registration to compete is open until Nov. 15, at the Education Office of Pak Nam Pran sub district Municipality. For inquiries, call 0-3263-1662.

Heavy rains threaten southern Thailand

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning today about weather conditions in Thailand. The northern part of the country is experiencing morning fog and increasing rainfall. Simultaneously, the southern region is facing substantial downpours, causing a sudden risk of flooding and rapid forest runoff.

The high-pressure weather system or cold air mass that covers the northern part of Thailand is beginning to weaken. At the same time, the eastern winds are blowing over Thailand, the Gulf of Thailand, and the Andaman Sea. Continued …

Serious air pollution forecast in and around Bangkok this weekend

The Pollution Control Department has warned residents of Bangkok and its suburbs that, from Friday to Sunday, air quality, especially in eastern Bangkok and southern Thon Buri, is likely to deteriorate to Orange Level, meaning it could have an impact on health.

The department explained that the anticipated poor air quality is due to a combination of reduced rainfall and the cold front looming over Thailand, resulting in poor air circulation and an accumulation of PM2.5 dust in the atmosphere. Continued …

Chiang Mai nightclub scandal: Police officers relocated, 242 minors found using fake IDs

Five police officers from Chang Phueak Police Station have been relocated following a Halloween night incident involving 242 minors under 20 years old using fake identification to enter a nightclub.

The minors were found to have altered their birth dates on their national identification cards to gain entry. An investigation committee was set up today. The establishment was not only operating without a permit but had also been serving alcohol to minors and was open past the allowed operational hours. Continued … 

Hamas to free Thais ‘at end of Gaza fight’

Hamas representatives have promised Thai negotiators that Thai hostages captured in Israel will be released when Israel ends its offensive in the Gaza Strip where they are being held, according to a Thai Shia Muslim leader.

Saiyid Sulaiman Husaini, leader of an association of Shia Muslims in Thailand, said on Tuesday the commitment was made at talks between negotiators appointed by Parliament President Wan Muhamad Noor Matha and Hamas representatives at the office of an adviser to the president of Iran. Continued …

Scaled-down EV subsidies approved

Subsidies for purchases of electric vehicles will be reduced to a maximum of 100,000 baht starting in 2024, from 150,000 baht now, the National EV Policy Committee announced on Wednesday.

The change is part of a broader package of revisions to EV incentives that will be in effect from 2024-27. Other incentives for vehicle producers and battery makers are intended to reduce their costs and ultimately make electric vehicles cheaper, thereby reducing the need for consumer subsidies. Crackdown Ordered on ‘Foreign Mafia’ in Phuket

A prominent Royal Thai Immigration commander has ordered a crackdown on “foreign mafia” in Phuket after six foreigners, including Indian and Russian nationals, attacked Immigration officers.

Phuket’s nightlife venues to stay open until 4am

Phuket Gov. Sophon Suwannarat called upon local authorities to prepare themselves for the island’s nightlife venues, which remain open until 4am. This directive was issued during a meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall, where officials were instructed to identify the precise areas or zones where the late-night operations would be applicable.

Visa exemption policy expected to benefit Thai tourism next year

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has revised down its inbound foreign tourists projection, expecting the total number of Chinese tourists traveling to Thailand throughout this year at 4 million, generating 257.5 billion baht in estimated revenue.

According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, a total of 2,765,906 Chinese tourists visited the country from Jan. 1 to Oct. 29, the second highest after Malaysia. Hua Hin-Pattaya bus service twice a day

Hua Hin now has once-daily bus service to Pattaya, leaving Hua Hin at 9am and departing from Pattaya at 8am. Tickets are 473 THB.

Tickets can be bought in person at the Hua Hin bus station or online. Buses depart from the Hua Hin bus station and in front of Government Savings Bank, Cha Am.. Tickets

Hua Hin-Chiang Mai flights reduced to two per week

Thai Air Asia will reduce direct flights from four to twice weekly between Chiang Mai, the gateway city to north Thailand and the beach resort town of Hua Hin on the Gulf of Thailand.

From Chiang Mai, the new schedule switches to two weekly flights (Friday and Sunday), starting Oct. 30. The one-way is around USD78.40 (THB2,846), including fees and tax. Continued …
