Air pollution worsens in Hua Hin

Like many locations in Thailand, Hua Hin has seen a significant rise in air pollution, as levels of PM 2.5, the fine particulate matter known for its adverse health effects, have reached concerning levels over the last 24 hours.

On Monday, the air quality index recorded a PM 2.5 concentration of 42.3, surpassing the standard safe limit of 37.5. This increase in pollution levels is beginning to have tangible impacts on public health. Continued …

Prachual Khiri Khan tackles fires, smog problems

Prachuap Khiri Khan Province has taken a step forward in its efforts to manage and control wildfires. The province has officially designated a special wildfire control area that encompasses a total of 154 villages across eight districts.

Old and sick brutally abused tigers in condemned Asian breeding horror

We have just helped rescue 15 elderly and sick tigers and leopards from a condemned breeding mill in Thailand and likely helped save them from death. But there are up to 15 critically endangered Indo-Chinese leopards and sick and elderly tigers that still need rescue right now or face life in a zoo (if they survive). These are wild creatures who have lived chained and beaten their entire lives.

Last year, we told you that a horror big-cat breeding facility in Thailand had been shut down, and its resident cats were in urgent need of relocation to our partner sanctuary. We were there in December when the first 15 rescued big cats arrived at Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT). Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin, a part of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Co., has broadened its healthcare services by opening a new clinic in Pak Nam Pran.

Miss Grand Sam Roi Yod 2024 crowned

Nong Plai Fah, 27, triumphed at the Miss Grand Sam Roi Yod 2024 pageant, securing the title along with a diamond crown and a cash reward of 50,000 baht. The event took place Jan. 15 at the Im-Ook-Im-Jai Seafood & Cafe in Sam Roi Yod. The first runner-up was Phatranis Pattengkam, 23, who received a sash and 10,000 Baht. The Orchid Palm Homes Cup IX is set for Jan. 28 at the Hua Hin International School. Six local teams will participate in the six-a-side tournament which is for under 13s.

Thai data privacy watchdog uncovers massive breach involving over 5,000 organizations

Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) recently uncovered a significant privacy breach involving 5,261 organizations. Among these, a majority of 4,886 were government agencies from both central and local sectors. The lapse in data protection was observed between Nov. 9 of the previous year and Jan. 12.

The violations were primarily due to excessively revealing personal data on various websites and a noticeable absence of necessary security measures to safeguard this private information. Cybercrime costs Thailand 6.76 billion baht in 70 days

Cybercrime inflicted a blow to Thailand’s economy, with losses amounting to 6.76 billion baht (US$192 million) within a span of 70 days, as reported by the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau.

Government rebuffs claim land bridge ‘not worth investing in’

The government has defended a claim brought by the opposition Move Forward Party (MFP) and a civic group based in Chumphon that the 1-trillion-baht land bridge megaproject is not worth investing in and the public has not been consulted on it.

The accusation came as Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin was in Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum, where he was.hoping to attract interest in the project – a priority of the Pheu-Thai-led government – among foreign investors. Continued …

Chat commerce set to surge

Line Thailand forecasts that the value of chat commerce will reach 1.14 trillion baht in 2028, up from 462 billion baht in 2023, with a compound annual growth rate of 19.2%.

New green power tariff forecast to boost investment flows

EcoBlue expands food-grade PET recycling capacity in Thailand

EcoBlue, a recycler of post-consumer and post-industrial polyolefins and PET based in Rayong, has expanded its PET recycling capacity one year and a half after starting operations at its new plant.

The company commissioned its second Starlinger viscotec solid state polycondensation (SSP) machine to produce food-grade PET in December 2023. Following the commissioning, EcoBlue hit a yearly capacity of 30,000 tons of food-grade rPET. Continued …

Hotel investment in Thailand is ramping up at the same rate as prior to the pandemic, driven by more hotel conversions and an increase in lending among banks, based on an optimistic tourism industry, according to hospitality consultant C9 Hotelworks.

The acting abbot of Wat Chiang Mun in Chiang Mai found himself in the middle of a social-media uproar sparked by two Western women caught sunbathing within his temple’s compound.
