Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit said the detailed study for Motorway No. 8 (M8) has been completed and the proposal will soon be submitted to the Cabinet for approval. Hua Hin Airport certification is moving forward, as the airport enters the final stages of Thailand’s nationwide program to standardize and improve aviation safety.
Following the recent certification of Phitsanulok and Krabi airports, the Department of Airports (DOA) confirmed that Hua Hin Airport is now in Phase 4 of the five-step certification process. This stage involves on-site operational inspections carried out by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), and places Hua Hin on track to gain its public airport certification within the next year. Drug Gang Busted in Hua Hin Villa
Police have arrested members of the infamous “Sergeant M16” drug trafficking network, a syndicate accused of moving more than 10 million methamphetamine pills, during a raid on a pool villa in Hua Hin.
The operation, led by Bangkok Metropolitan Police Bureau investigators and Romsai police, resulted in the capture of four high-value suspects, each carrying a government-issued bounty of 1.5 million baht. Bangkok Bank enforcing stricter account verification
Bangkok Bank has recently begun enforcing stricter account verification requirements, in line with new government directives aimed at boosting security and cracking down on cybercrime and scams. Customers have been asked to visit their branch with identification documents, such as a passport, to verify their account details.
However, many foreign customers have reported that their accounts were suspended — leaving them unable to withdraw cash, transfer funds, or pay bills. Even after completing the verification process, some expats have reported their accounts being frozen for up to seven days.
Other banks are expected to adopt similar measures soon, as part of broader changes to Thailand’s banking and SIM card registration systems. – HHT

Thailand records 7% y/y drop in foreign visitors so far in 2025
Thailand’s foreign tourist arrivals from Jan. 1 to Aug. 17 fell 7% from the same period a year earlier, the Tourism and Sports Ministry said today. There were about 20.81 million foreign visitors during the period, it said. China was the largest source market, with 2.93 million visitors.

Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok
The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.(We recommend checking with the bus company about this schedule, as it changes without notice.)
Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer two round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. If the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) does not quickly publish its final determination in the antidumping/countervailing duty (AD/CVD) investigation affecting solar panels from Southeast Asia, a potential loophole could allow millions of solar panels to enter the U.S. market untariffed. This is according to the American Alliance for Solar Manufacturing Trade Committee, the successful petitioners in the AD/CVD case.
The committee says large quantities of solar cells and panels from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam are being held in bonded warehouses and in inventories, and could enter the United States without duties if the ITC does not pass on its final determination to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) by June 2. Safety concerns and structural issues hinder Chinese travel to Thailand
According to an analysis by KKP Research, Chinese visitors to Thailand had recovered to 60%–70% of pre-Covid-19 levels by late 2024. However, following the Chinese New Year in January 2025, the number of Chinese tourists sharply declined by nearly half, dropping to fewer than 300,000 visitors per month — equivalent to only 30% of the pre-pandemic figures.
