With over 10,000 books in various European languages, Hua Hin’s Blue & Yellow Book Exchange has reopened. The store is located at 114/23 Petchkasem Road, near the main traffic lights, opposite Krungsri Bank. Open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm.

All 500 MPs-Designate Finally Ratified

All 500 MPs-designate were ratified yesterday by the Election Commission, capping a five-week period of the nationwide electoral process.

Election Commission Secretary-general Sawaeng Boonmee announced ratification of all 400 MPs-designate running in constituency-based mode and all 100 MPs-designate vying in party-listed mode, after investigation had been earlier conducted into allegations of vote-buying and other breaches to the election law involving a total of 71 winning contestants vying in the former mode. Phra Prang Wat Arun tilting, to be surveyed every 3 months

Thailand’s Fine Arts Department plans to survey Phra Prang Wat Arun, one of Bangkok’s most famous landmarks on the Chao Phraya River, every three months after it was discovered through scanning that the principal prang, a tall tower-like spire, has started to lean.

The assistant abbot and secretary of the temple, also known as the Temple of Dawn, said yesterday that the slight reclining of the principal prang has caused four secondary prangs, located at its four corners, and four mondops, a square or cruciform building with a pointed roof, to lean slightly toward the main prang. Foreign firms bring THB45 billion to Thailand, down 18% y-o-y

The number of foreign companies setting up operations in Thailand in the first five months of 2023 grew 16% year-on-year but investment dropped 18%, according to the Commerce Ministry on Tuesday.

Some 274 foreign investors were granted permission under the Foreign Business Act to set up in Thailand from January to May, said the ministry’s Department of Business Development (DBD) Director-general Thosapone Dansuputra. They invested a total of 45.39 billion baht and created 2,999 jobs. Continued …

Sixty percent of Asia Pacific consumers will opt for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) in the near future, according to a study released on Monday.

The “Automotive Ecosystem Vision Study” found rising demand for HEVs, with 53% of global consumers revealing a stronger preference to purchase hybrids, rising to 60% in Asia. Continued …

Buffalo soldiers battle for supremacy in Chonburi

Chonburi kicked off the rice-planting season on Sunday with a raucous tradition that dates back at least two centuries – buffalo racing. The races were organized to strengthen relationships between villagers, while also educating youngsters about the significance of this local tradition. Buffalos can hit speeds of up to 56 kilometres per hour as they thunder across muddy fields with jockeys either on their backs or dragged behind on flat sleighs. Most farms use mechanical equipment to plough fields these days, but the buffalo or “kwai” is still prized for its traditional place at the heart of Thai agriculture and rural life. (The Nation)

Hua Hin-Pattaya bus service twice a day

Hua Hin now has twice-daily bus service to Pattaya, leaving Hua Hin at 9am and 3pm, and departing from Pattaya at 8am and 4pm. Tickets are 473 THB.

Tickets can be bought in person at the Hua Hin bus station or online. Buses depart from the Hua Hin bus station and in front of Government Savings Bank, Cha Am.. Tickets
