Why are so many foreigners residing in Thailand problematic types?

I can’t help but notice all the negative aspects about many of the expats I’ve come across in Thailand. It’s disheartening to see that so many foreigners seem to fall into one of several categories: unpleasant, criminal, or otherwise problematic.

Firstly, the number of rude and disrespectful expats is staggering. It’s as if some people left their manners at the airport. From obnoxious behavior in public to a complete lack of respect for Thai culture and people, these individuals don’t add anything positive to the backdrop. Russian arrested in Hua Hin with multiple drugs seized

A Russian man has been arrested and illegal drugs seized from his room in Hua Hin town of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

The arrest followed the seizure of a parcel containing 840 grams of mephedrone on June 24, Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) Secretary-general Panurat Lakboon said on Saturday. He did not disclose the name of the suspect. Continued …

The Hua Hin Food Festival 2024, scheduled for Aug. 2-4, will feature over 100 booths, according to the latest update from Hua Hin Municipality and Hua Hin Women’s Club. The festival will be held at Suan Luang Queen’s Park (19 Rai).

Agoda: Searches soar for Thai destinations

As the rainy season sets in, there’s an uptick in searches for Thailand’s secondary cities, Agoda observes in its latest Thai travel market report. Based on accommodation searches, Agoda identifies so-called secondary cities in Thailand: Chanthaburi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Nakhon Nayok Ratchaburi, and Chiang Rai.

Chiang Rai’s main tourist season was cut short by forest fires, and smog was deemed a serious health hazard for its elderly residents and children. However, the early onset of the rainy season revived domestic bookings, although hoteliers report that June to September performance metrics — average room rate, REVPAR and occupancy — are well below the pre-pandemic seasonal averages. Heavy flooding after torrential rains in Phuket

Heavy rainfall in Phuket disrupted flights and caused widespread flooding across the tourist island province. Starting at 7am yesterday, persistent rain forced the diversion of around 10 inbound flights to other airports, including Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi, Krabi, Langkawi, Penang, and Surat Thani.

The heavy downpour reduced visibility, making it impossible for pilots to see the runway, according to Phuket airport director Monchai Tanod. Four outbound domestic flights were also affected, unable to depart as they waited for passengers from the delayed incoming flights. Continued …
