Easy Airline to Launch Flights Linking Hua Hin, Surat Thani, Phuket & Hat Yai

Easy Airline is set to expand its aviation operations with a new regional service connecting Hua Hin to key southern destinations: Surat Thani, Phuket and Hat Yai. The airline has taken delivery of a new aircraft from the United States, signaling a move to promote tourism and improve regional connectivity. Initial operations will begin as charter flights this September.

The newly acquired aircraft, a 12-seat Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX, recently landed at Hua Hin Airport. Early effects of US tariffs outlined

The U.S. plans to impose a 36% tariff on Thai goods if no agreement is reached by Aug. 1. Meanwhile, Vietnam secured a deal reducing its tariff to 20% from 46%.

These “reciprocal tariffs” have severely disrupted bilateral trade. For example, U.S. imports from China by sea fell 28.5% in May compared to the previous year — the sharpest drop since the Covid-19 pandemic — after the U.S. imposed tariffs as high as 145%. U.S. container imports dropped 7.2% in May to 2.18 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), with major West Coast ports like Long Beach and Los Angeles were hit hardest, seeing Chinese imports fall by over 30%. Trump confirms no extension on tariff deadline, threatens 200% tax on drug imports

U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will not extend the tariff deadline further and will proceed with the stringent customs tariffs set for early August. Trump has also warned of a potential 200% import tax on copper and pharmaceutical products if manufacturing is not moved to the United States.

According to Bloomberg, Trump stated via social media and during a Cabinet meeting yesterday that he would not delay the imposition of the “countermeasure” tariffs. Thailand remains optimistic about securing a lower tariff rate than the 36% levy announced by U.S. President Donald Trump based on an offer to bring down import tax on most U.S. goods to zero, according to Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira.

The Southeast Asian nation expects to wrap up trade negotiations before the Aug. 1 deadline set by the U.S., Pichai said yesterday. Th x could fall below 1,000 points and the country’s GDP growth to less than 1% if the Thai negotiating team led by Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira cannot convince the U.S. to lower its reciprocal tariff from 36%, analysts said yesterday.

Xi warned Paetongtarn: drop casino bill or face consequences – Anutin

China’s President Xi Jinping urged Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to drop Pheu Thai’s flagship “casino bill”, or to expect negative repercussions on tourism and bilateral trade, former interior minister Anutin Charnvirakul has revealed. Anutin claimed that Xi raised the issue during a high-level meeting in Beijing.

“The Chinese president made the suggestion to Paetongtarn on three separate occasions during the meeting, which I also attended as interior minister,” Anutin said, adding that he had taken detailed notes, because it involved his ministry. Continued …

Cannabis law change will shutter 16,000 businesses

Only 2,000 of the estimated 18,000 cannabis shops in Thailand will be left once authorities complete their plan to convert dispensaries to clinics with resident doctors, a Ministry of Public Health official said yesterday.

Monkey business banned: Thai coconuts go cruelty-free

Thailand’s coconut industry is cracking down on a controversial practice that has tarnished its reputation worldwide: using monkeys to harvest coconuts. In a move to rescue its image and secure farmers’ livelihoods, the Thai Coconut Industry Group has joined forces with the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) to ban monkey labor once and for all.

High-spending tourists generate 1.74-trillion baht for Thai economy

High-spending tourists help support Thailand’s tourism revenue, compensating for the decline in Chinese visitors, generating approximately 1.74-trillion baht for the Thai economy, according to Krungthai COMPASS research center.

The center’s senior analyst, Supree Srisamran, stated that the past one to two years have been challenging for Thailand’s tourism sector, as it has faced structural changes due to a significant reduction in Chinese tourists, who previously formed the core of tourism revenue. Short-haul bookings remain weak

Airlines report forward bookings for short-haul markets for the remainder of this year are weak, in contrast to the long-haul segment, while some carriers expressed interest in joining the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) stimulus campaign.

Tour bus accident in Phetchaburi injures 9

Yesterday at approximately 8 p.m., a tour bus lost control and skidded off the road near a sharp curve on Phetkasem Road (southbound) at kilometer 151-560, in the Huasaphan area, Phetchaburi Province. Fortunately, all 28 passengers and two crew members managed to exit the vehicle safely. Nine people sustained minor injuries.

Four foreign tourists, who wished to stay overnight before continuing their journey the next morning, were provided with accommodation, food, and drinking water by Phetchaburi authorities, ensuring that they were fully supported during the situation. Continued …

Arsenic contamination in Chiang Mai children linked to river fish

An alarming discovery was made in Mae Ai district, Chiang Mai province, where arsenic levels in two young children were found to exceed normal standards. This was believed to be linked to fish consumption from the Kok River, which flows from Shan State, Myanmar, into Thailand.

The Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office conducted tests Monday on four residents from Kaeng Sai Mun village, Mae Ai district, with urine samples collected on May 19. The results indicated that two children, a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old, had abnormal levels of arsenic in their bodies. The children reportedly consumed fish from the Kok River regularly. WHAUP supplying Saha Farms with solar power

WHA Utilities and Power (WHAUP), an arm of WHA Corp., an industrial land developer and operator, has expanded its renewable energy business outside industrial estates by supplying multi-platform solar power to Saha Farms Group, a Thai agricultural manufacturer.

Twelve Arrested in Late-Night Gambling Raid in Prachuap Khiri Khan

Twelve people have been arrested after authorities raided a suspected illegal gambling setup operating out of a private residence in the coastal district of Thap Sakae. The late-night operation saw gamblers scatter in all directions as officials closed in on the property.

The raid took place at a hoU.S.e in Moo 5, Ban Thung Kok, Thap Sakae District, following a tip-off to provincial administrators that an illegal gambling den had been operating regularly at the site, particularly during weekends and holidays. Thai woman dies in attack by wild elephant in Surat Thani forest

A Thai woman lost her life in an attack by a wild elephant while traveling on a motorcycle with her son through a forest in the southern province of Surat Thani. Officers rushed to Thap Nok Forest within the Khlong Yan Wildlife Sanctuary after being alerted to the elephant attack by one of the victims, a 37-year-old woman.

A mother has been killed and her son seriousy injured after they were attacked by a wild elephant in a remote forested area in Kanchanaburi. The incident occurred while the pair was foraging for local fruits in a mountainous area near their village.

‘Moderately Serious’ Arsenic Levels Found in Kok River

The 27th annual Red Cross and Hua Hin District Fair will finish its run on Sunday. The fair, organized by Hua Hin District in partnership with the Hua Hin District Branch of the Thai Red Cross Society, is being held at the activity area behind Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall on Hua Hin Soi 102.

Hua Hin to host snooker tournament starting Monday

Hua Hin is set to welcome some of the country’s top snooker players beginning Monday as the city hosts the “TKC Hua Hin Cup 2025”, a professional-ranking snooker tournament. U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday announced a successful trade agreement with Vietnam, confirming a 20% import tariff on goods sent to the United States. This agreement was finalized before the looming deadline of July 9 after several rounds of intense negotiations.

World Bank cuts Thailand’s 2025 GDP growth forecast to 1.8%

State revenue misses goal by Bt12.7 billion

The government’s revenue collection for the first eight months of the fiscal year fell short of the target by 0.7%, or 12.7 billion baht. Despite the shortfall, this figure was still 28.8 billion bahtm or 1.7%m higher than the same period last year.

According to a Finance Ministry report, the government’s net revenue collection during the first eight months of fiscal 2025 (October 2024 to May 2025) amounted to 1.7 trillion baht, after deducting tax refunds and the allocation of value-added tax (VAT) revenue to local administrative organizations. Over the past few years, researchers have discovered dramatic and “unexpected” shifts in the Southern Ocean, with saltiness rising and sea ice in steep decline, according to a new study.

Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Thai PM suspended

Thailand’s Constitutional Court has suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from her duties pending a ruling on whether she breached ethical standards in violation of the constitution, following a controversial phone call with Cambodia’s former leader, Hun Sen.

Revision of alcohol sales ban from 2-5 pm under review

The Ministry of Public Health expects scrutiny of a new bill containing a series of amendments to the Alcohol Control Act 2008 to be completed later this month, says Minister Somsak Thepsutin. The legislation will get rid of outdated military-era sales restrictions and ease curbs on advertising, but will also introduce some stricter regulations.

Editor: A “promenade” is in the plans. However, legal action by the affected businesses is a possibility, delaying any demolition and possible “improvements” perhaps by years.

Red Cross and Hua Hin District Fair starts today

The 27th annual Red Cross and Hua Hin District Fair will take place from June 27 to July 6. Thai regulator prepares for possible gas price spike

The tentative ceasefire between Israel and Iran is giving Thai energy regulators more time to brace for liquefied natural gas (LNG) price fluctuations, which often lead to higher electricity bills, says an energy official who requested anonymity.

Officials are searching for two more bombs, which the suspects claimed to have hidden on Surin Beach in Phuket. All six criminals involved in the bomb plot were arrested.

Officers from Mueang Phang Nga Police Station apprehended two suspects, 29 year old Muhama Wadeng and 27 year old Sulaiman Gaza, in the southern province of Phang Nga at 3.30 am Tuesday. Patong Beach gets bomb squad and sniffer dogs for tourist safety

Phuket officials are ramping up security in one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations after a safety inspection at Patong Beach, aimed at reassuring tourists and locals. On Wednesday, a bomb scare was averted thanks to the swift action of local police, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units, and specially trained sniffer dogs.

A wave of coordinated attacks shook Pattani Province Wednesday night, as a group of at least 10 armed men stormed and set fire to the Plen Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO)building in Sai Buri District, destroying four vehicles and leaving behind what appeared to be explosive devices at multiple sites across two districts.

The incident prompted police, firefighters, and emergency response teams to rush to the scene. Suspected Explosive Device Found Outside Phang Nga Governor’s Residence

Authorities in Phang Nga were placed on high alert after a suspected explosive device was discovered yesterday near the perimeter fence of the provincial governor’s residence. Initial reports indicate that the device, disguised to resemble a rock, contained an operational explosive mechanism with a possible blast radius of up to 10 meters.

Businesses call for delay in minimum wage hike

The government needs to reconsider its plan to increase the daily minimum wage in Bangkok to 400 baht from July 1, as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) cannot bear additional costs in such a weak economy, which is expected to slow further in the second half of this year, says the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

Bangkok is slated to be added to a list of provinces where the daily minimum wage is 400 baht, a campaign pledge of the ruling Pheu Thai Party. A pilot program in four areas raised the daily minimum wage to 400 baht on Jan. 1 this year. Continued …

New minimum wage could lead to hotel layoffs

Large-scale layoffs in the hotel sector could be seen during this low season if the government agrees to raise the minimum wage to 400 baht from next week as planned, while the Thai Hotels Assn.(THA) has submitted a petition to the prime minister, asking for the policy to be cancelled.

La-iad Bungsrithong, an adviser to the THA board, said that as five-star hotels in Chiang Mai had earlier been mandated with the 400-baht daily minimum wage, they had already felt an impact from the soaring wage costs, which are up 14% from last year. Continued …

Phuket Fines Over 28,000 Foreign Tourists for Traffic Offenses So Far in 2025

Phuket officials have reported that 28,809 foreign tourists have been fined for traffic violations on the island to date in 2025. Russian visitors topped the list with 3,121 cases, followed by tourists from China (1,721), the UK (1,419), France (1,365), and India (1,069).

Since Jan. 1, the police have arrested 369 foreigners for various offenses. These include 87 violations of the Immigration Act, 65 cases of drunk driving, and 27 breaches of the Alien Employment Act. “I followed a traffic policeman on a bike all the way up Soi 88 from town to the one and only set of traffic lights. I thought I’d do a little experiment. In that 8kms, I witnessed him pass 11 people without helmets. Did he do anything, NO! All he seemed interested in was watching the farang in his mirrors 50 meters behind him that he couldn’t do anything about because I was driving legally! New rules! Total BS! Someone needs to get a grip on policeman plod!” – BP

Editor: I guess the good news was that there actually were police doing a patrol. Usually they just stay in their air-conditioned offices until they are called to do something. We have also done a similar experiment, counting 32 people on motorcycles, and only 12 with helmets. All Thais. And yesterday we saw a woman and her three children of various ages on a motorbike. Only the mother had a helmet. Can most Thais even afford helmets for their children, who will outgrow them in short order? Bottom line: Farang need to get used to the double standard. It’s not going to change. We’re guests in this country, so follow the law, even if it does not seem fair.

Thailand Tightens Rules for Foreign Drivers: Tests Now Mandatory
