German man murdered in Prachuap Khiri Khan, wife confesses

Police uncovered a murder plot involving a Thai woman and her male employee who killed a German man and left his body inside a house in Prachuap Khiri Khan province for almost a month before pretending innocence and notifying police about the death.

The case came to light on Dec. 1 when the 45-year-old Thai woman, Nitthaya, contacted officers from Khlong Wan Police Station to report a foul smell coming from a house in the Huay Sai subdistrict. Extended hours for beach vendors rejected

Ninth Thai soldier loses leg from landmine in Surin

Two Thai soldiers were injured after stepping on landmines, one losing his leg, near the Thai-captured Ta Kwai temple in the northeastern province of Surin yesterday afternoon.

Trip.com suspends tourism partnership with Cambodia amid border clashes, cyber concerns

Trip.com Group, the biggest online travel agency in China, said yesterday that its partnership with Cambodia’s tourism authority was suspended, in a move to address the Chinese public’s heightened sensitivity over safety in the Southeast Asian country.

The company, which operates the Ctrip and Qunar sites in mainland China, said the collaboration – originally scheduled to run from September 2025 to March 2026 – “had been suspended due to recent safety alerts issued by the Chinese embassy in Cambodia”. Continued …

Electronics lead export growth of 7% in November

The Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO reported that exports in November were worth US$27.445 billion, expanding for a 17th consecutive month at 7.1%. Excluding oil-related products, gold and military supplies, exports rose 11.8%. Imports totaled US$30.172 billion, up 17.6%, resulting in a trade deficit of US$2.726 billion.

Nantapong Chiralerspong, director of the TPSO, said exports were mainly supported by electronics shipments, driven by the upcycle in computers and growth in modern technologies, including AI, keeping industrial exports at a high growth rate. Continued … 

Foreign investment hits 331-billion baht in 11 months

Foreign investment in Thailand rose in both volume and value in the first 11 months of 2025, with total approved investment reaching 331.162 billion baht, up 45% year on year, according to the Department of Business Development (DBD).

Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, director-general of the DBD under the Commerce Ministry, said approvals for foreign nationals to operate businesses in Thailand under the Foreign Business Act, B.E. 2542 (1999) — limited to businesses required to obtain permission — in November 2025 totaled 104 cases. Economic slowdown drags new business registrations down 22% in November

Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, director-general of the Department of Business Development (DBD) under the Ministry of Commerce, said Thailand recorded 5,554 new business registrations in November. That was down 22% month-on-month from 7,165 in October 2025, a fall of 1,611. Compared with November 2024 (6,266), registrations were down 11%, or 712.

Total registered capital stood at 14.86-billion baht in November. This was down 32% month-on-month from 21.78-billion baht in October, a decline of 6.92-billion baht, and down 39% year-on-year from 24.22-billion baht in November 2024, a fall of 9.36-billion baht. Continued …

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) expects a significant decline in New Year holiday revenue, forecasting a 2%-9% decline compared to last year. 66 Flights Added as Year-End Travel Nears Pre-Covid Levels

In anticipation of a surge in air travel this year-end, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has requested airlines to arrange 66 additional flights from Dec. 27 to Jan. 4. China’s EV makers spark price war in Thailand with discounts up to 38%

Chinese electric vehicle makers, already struggling with bruising competition at home, have brought their aggressive discounting to Thailand as they look to win over budget-conscious buyers. The savings are eye-catching: BYD Co. slashed as much as 38% from the sticker price for its Seal electric sedan in October, and is offering compensation if there are more price cuts this year on some of its other models.

GULF Commences Operation of 2 Solar Farms with 145 MW Capacity

Gulf Development Public Co. yesterday disclosed that two solar farms under the company’s group of subsidiaries, in which the company indirectly holds a 100% equity stake through Gulf Renewable Energy Co., successfully commenced commercial operations with a total contracted capacity of 109.7 megawatts (installed capacity of 145.0 megawatts) and commenced the sale of generated electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).

The purchase of electricity from these projects will help reduce fuel price volatility and alleviate both household and industrial sectors’ electricity cost burden by providing access to electricity at reasonable price throughout the contract period, as the tariff is lower than the current average electricity price. Hua Hin City Municipality has stepped up beach cleaning after monsoon winds pushed large amounts of debris ashore along the coastline. Municipal officials said the increased beach cleaning is essential during the northeast monsoon, when stronger winds and rougher seas carry plastic waste, wood scraps, coconuts and natural debris onto the sand.

Hungry wild elephant raids Hua Hin house for midnight snack of noodles and rice

A hungry wild elephant raided a house while looking for food. The jumbo emerged from a nearby forest before ransacking the roadside restaurant in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province in the early hours of Monday morning. CCTV footage shows the jumbo walking over to the eatery, wandering inside, and smashing kitchenware as it grabbed some rice and noodles from the shelves.

The tusker was seen tucking into the midnight meal before leaving the property in shambles. Plans to install automated railway barriers at several level crossings in Hua Hin have been discussed, as officials look to improve safety and traffic flow at points where local roads intersect with the railway line.

During a meeting yesterday, Hua Hin City and representatives from the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) reviewed safety arrangements at seven railway level crossings in the municipality. Currently, four of Hua Hin’s crossings are located beneath the double-track railway line, including those at Chomsin Road (Ang Nam roundabout), Soi Hua Hin 88 (Bon Kai roundabout), Soi Hua Hin 94 (Mae Keb area), and Soi Hua Hin 102. The Bank of Thailand (BOT) is set to introduce new 50- and 100-baht polymer banknotes, which will officially enter circulation on Nov. 21.

BOT Gov. Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput said the new banknotes, made from a special polymer material, are more durable and resistant to moisture and dirt. The change aims to keep banknotes cleaner, longer-lasting, and more environmentally friendly. Thailand on Flood Alert as Typhoon Kalmaegi Nears

Thailand’s disaster authorities have issued flood warnings for Bangkok and 65 provinces as weakening Typhoon Kalmaegi brings heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the Chao Phraya River. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) cautioned that the capital and surrounding Central Plains provinces could see significant flooding from today to Sunday, with authorities closely monitoring the river’s fast-flowing current.

As of yesterday, the DDPM reported water flowing through the Chao Phraya River barrage in Chai Nat province at a rate of 3,050 to 3,250 cubic meters per second. The Royal Irrigation Department has increased the discharge rate from 2,500 to 2,700 cu m/sec to manage inflow from upstream. During the major floods of 2011, the river’s flow rate peaked at 3,703 cu m/sec, underscoring concerns that current levels could still pose a serious risk to low-lying communities. Continued …

Rain lashed down in the northern Thai village of Nong Krating as Sawattiphon Wongkasettakon described the worsening air pollution that sweeps in through the mountains here each year. “It didn’t used to be so bad, but in the last three years it’s become impossible to ignore,” Sawattiphon, a former deputy chief of the village, said. “The sky gets dark, it’s uncomfortable when we breathe. It blows in from the maize farms.”

Farmers in the region straddling northern Thailand, Myanmar’s Shan state, and Laos grow maize to supply Thailand’s booming animal feed industry. Every year before the planting season, they set controled fires to clear their fields of crop stubble left over from the harvest. Hua Hin celebrated Loy Krathong last night, with residents gathering at several locations across the city to take part in one of Thailand’s most recognizable annual cultural traditions. This year’s Loy Krathong celebrations in Hua Hin were scaled back following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, but the events continued in a respectful and reflective manner.

At Khao Tao Reservoir, families and groups of friends released krathongs made from natural materials such as banana leaves and bread into the water as part of the long-standing tradition of paying respect to the Goddess of Water and symbolically letting go of misfortune. Bribery probe deepens police credibility crisis

The reputation of the Royal Thai Police (RTP) has suffered a significant blow following a decision by the Police Complaints Review Committee (PCRC) to formally accuse former National Police Chief Torsak Sukvimol and more than 200 police officers of disciplinary misconduct for allegedly accepting bribes from online gambling networks.

The improving global economy is expected to boost Thai exports by 9.5%-10% this year, higher than previously estimated, but Thailand will not gain significantly from the growth, says the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB). The headline consumer price index (CPI) decreased by 0.76% year-on-year to 100 in October, marking the seventh straight month of decline, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

EV and PPV boost car production in September, while pickup truck sales decline

Automotive Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) reported that in September car production grew by 14% compared to the previous month, driven largely by the increase in electric vehicles (EVs) and pickup passenger vehicles (PPVs). However, pickup truck production declined, impacted by the challenging economic conditions and stricter lending policies.

A total of 128,104 cars were produced in September 2025, reflecting a 14% increase from August and a 4.8% increase from September 2024. Forest Taskforce Probes Kaeng Krachan Land Grab

A special taskforce from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) has launched an investigation into alleged forest encroachment and destruction in Kaeng Krachan National Park and adjacent state land in Hua Hin district, Prachuap Khiri Khan. The probe follows reports that investors have cleared forested hillsides and excavated soil in protected zones.

The taskforce is examining claims of land ownership under Nor Sor 3 Kor documents allegedly covering 3,162 rai — 2,016 rai of state property and 1,146 rai within the national park. Investigators found new evidence of encroachment beyond these documents, totaling 914 rai, 81 rai within the park and 833 rai of state land. Bus crashes in Hua Hin, 8 students injured

Eight student cadets were injured when a Hua Hin–Pranburi route bus skidded on a rain-soaked road and crashed into a power pole while descending Khao Dang Pass yesterday. Police have charged the driver with reckless driving and damaging government property.

The accident occurred at around 6 pm. Police at Hua Hin Police Station received a report of a crash near the downhill section of Khao Dang Pass on the Hua Hin–Nong Phlab Road. Rescue teams from the Sawang Hua Hin Foundation were dispatched to the scene. Continued …

Super Full Moon to Grace Loy Krathong Night

Thailand will experience a spectacular celestial event on Nov. 5, coinciding with the Loy Krathong festival. The Super Full Moon, the closest the moon will be to Earth this year, will be visible in the sky.

The moon will be only 356,966 kilometers away from Earth, appearing larger and brighter than usual. This astronomical phenomenon occurs due to the moon’s elliptical orbit, reaching its nearest point, or perigee, with an average distance of 357,000 kilometers from Earth. Heavy rain forecast across Thailand as low-pressure system strengthens

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) reported today that an active low-pressure cell covering the upper Gulf of Thailand is drawing moisture-laden easterly winds into the upper part of the country, while a weak high-pressure system lingers over northern areas. The confluence of easterly and southeasterly winds across the north is expected to bring increased rainfall, including isolated heavy showers in several regions.

Man Trampled to Death by Wild Elephant in Phu Wua Forest

A 55-year-old man was found dead after being attacked by a wild elephant in the Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary in Bueng Kan province. The discovery followed a three-day search after the man was reported missing by his relatives.

Authorities believe he encountered the elephant at close range while collecting forest produce and was trampled to death. Preliminary examinations indicated that the man sustained fatal injuries consistent with being attacked by a wild elephant. Seven listed firms suspected of involvement in Khmer-based, money-laundering scams

The House Committee on Money-Laundering & Drugs Suppression confirmed yesterday that seven listed firms on the Stock Exchange of Thailand have been reportedly suspected of being involved in money-laundering activities of the transnational rogue scammers and that representatives of those firms will be summoned to testify over the issue.

Call for longer leases to boost home ownership

Three real estate associations have asked the next government to extend the lease period for residential properties from 30 years to 60 years, as a new generation of potential homebuyers can no longer afford to purchase them.

Thailand’s automotive and auto parts industry is facing multiple major challenges

The Kasikorn Research Center says Thailand’s automotive industry must brace for US import tariff measures, intensifying competition from Chinese automakers, and seek more stringent environmental and safety standards of trading partners, all of which pose challenges to the industry’s long-term adaptation and competitiveness.

Dr. Rujipun Assarut, KResearch assistant managing director, said, “Although Thailand’s automobile exports to the US account for a small share, the US import tariff measure under Section 232 is likely to indirectly affect Thai car exports to global markets. This is because major producers such as Japan and South Korea may diversify their exports to other markets to reduce reliance on the US, thereby intensifying global competition. Restaurants voice concern over new alcohol law

The Restaurant Association has raised concerns about the new Alcoholic Beverage Control Act (2025), which bans the consumption of alcoholic beverages in establishments during prohibited hours. The new law is due to be enforced starting on Nov. 8 this year.

Some customers order and pay for their drinks prior to the sales ban period, continuing to drink at a venue.
