Bt749 million to address elephant attacks and damage

The Elephant Conservation and Management Committee has approved Bt749 million, to be secured from the Central Fund by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation, to address wild elephant attacks on people and the damage they cause to rural communities.

According to the department’s statistics, 18 people have been killed and 13 others injured since last October, compared to 39 fatalities and 18 injured in the previous fiscal year. Continued …

Over 70,000 cattle smuggled across Malaysia-Thailand border in 2024

Over 70,000 head of cattle were smuggled across the Malaysia-Thailand border states throughout the past year, said Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu.

With a surge in British travel \ers to Thailand post-Covid, there is an increasing demand for consular assistance from the British Embassy in Bangkok. In the past year, the embassy reported handling 2,007 assistance cases, encompassing various serious issues such as deaths, arrests, detentions, hospitalizations, and missing persons, illustrating the often-unforeseen challenges travelers may encounter abroad.

36 tourists injured, three critically, as tour bus rams utility pole

Thirty-six tourists, both Thai and foreign, were injured when the driver of the tour bus in which they were traveling lost control and slammed into a utility pole in Phetchaburi province, breaking it in half. The accident was reported at around 4am this morning on Phetkasem Road (inbound) in Khao Yoi district of the southern province.

Three of the injured persons suffered critical injuries and were sent to Khao Yoi and Phra Chomklao hospitals, a rescue official said. Continued …

WHA Utilities and Power (WHAUP), an arm of WHA Corp., one of Thailand’s biggest industrial land developers and operators, is allocating a large portion of its budget to develop its renewable energy business, hoping to earn long-term revenue by serving companies in the digital technology sector.

The development plans are being supported by a budget of 29 billion baht, set to be spent between 2025 and 2029. Chinese battery maker allots Bt50 billion for Chon Buri plants

Chinese battery cell maker Sunwoda Automotive Energy Technology (Thailand) is building two new factories in Thailand, aiming to benefit from the growing electric vehicle (EV) industry here to use the country as its new export base, says the Board of Investment (BoI).

Researchers have captured images of the critically endangered Thai freshwater crocodile sunbathing in Thung Salaeng Luang National Park in Phitsanulok Province. New bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The new first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin will offer two round trips daily. The fare would be 200 baht each way and would take three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure will be from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Thais Express Discontent with government and PM in New Poll

A recent survey by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) reveals widespread dissatisfaction among Thais regarding the government’s and Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s performance. Conducted late last month, the poll sampled 1,310 people nationwide.

Most Thais deported from Cambodia took jobs in scam centers for high pay

Most of the 119 Thais deported from Cambodia recently are believed to have gone there illegally, to work for scam centers in the Poipet border town. Seven of them are wanted by Thai police, according to the Cybercrime Investigation Bureau (CIB).

All the repatriated Thais had their cell phones seized upon their return to Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo province, which is just across the border from Poipet, suggesting that they were not trafficked to work in the scam centers, but were lured by the attractive remuneration. Continued …

How Often Do Thais Use E-hailing In A Week

E-hailing services are becoming increasingly popular among Thais, with more people relying on them for daily commutes and errands. As urban mobility evolves, Maxim’s analytics team examined user habits in 2024, revealing key insights into ride frequency, preferred services, and spending patterns.

According to the data, 49% of active users book rides twice a week, while 39% use the service once a week. Meanwhile, 10% book between three to six rides weekly, and a small but dedicated 1% use Maxim more than seven times a week. Most rides originate from public spaces, transportation hubs, and workplaces, heading toward residential areas. Regular users often commute across various parts of the city.

Among service options, the car service is used for 53% of rides, making it the most popular. Motorbikes make up 41% of trips because their speed and flexibility make them suited for short journeys in cities. While the remaining 5% consists of other services.

According to the data, 59% spend up to Bt50 per week, 36% spend up to Bt250, and only 13% exceed that amount. On average, users spend approximately Bt108 per week.

PKK man murders estranged wife

A 60-year-old man has been arrested after stabbing his estranged wife 11 times, fatally wounding her in their home in Prachuap Khiri Khan. Their son has spoken out, revealing that his father was deeply addicted to gambling.

The attack took place at around 5:30 am Tuesday in Ban Na Thong, Khlong Wan subdistrict, Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan. The suspect, identified as Sumpan Siangsai, used a newly purchased 50-centimeter knife to stab his wife, 53-year-old Sangwan Sualek, in the torso, with multiple wounds penetrating her heart and lungs. More than 7,000 foreign nationals trapped in scam call centers in Myanmar’s Myawaddy region have been freed and are awaiting repatriation, according to the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF).

The victims, totalling 7,141 people from 28 nationalities, were rescued from the notorious Shwe Kokko and KK Park complexes, areas known for human trafficking and cybercrime activities. Thai nominee crackdown uncovers tourism, property chaos

Authorities have announced progress in a crackdown on foreigners using Thai nominees to illegally run businesses, focusing on tourism and real estate. Cabinet Set to Reject Casino Entry Rule for Thai Nationals

Thai Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has indicated that a contentious proposal regulating casino entry for Thai citizens is unlikely to win cabinet approval. New 1st-class bus service from Bangkok airports to Hua Hin, Pattaya

State-run Transport Co. will launch a first-class bus service from Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports to Hua Hin and Pattaya on March 8.

There will be two round trips daily between Don Mueang airport and Hua Hin district in Prachuap Khiri Khan, a distance of 216 kilometers per trip. The fare would be 200 baht each way and would take three-and-a-half hours. Continued …

Thailand Faces Surge in Influenza: 100,000 Cases, 9 Deaths

Thailand is grappling with a serious influenza outbreak, having witnessed nearly 100,000 infections alongside nine fatalities in just 15 days. The Ministry of Public Health has confirmed this increase, underlining schools as significant hotspots. Cyber Police in about-face on scam workers: Most were trafficked

The cyber police said most of the 260 scam workers who have been screened are victims, with only two to three having volunteered to work for the call-center criminals rather just one of them being trafficked as earlier stated.

The head of the Technology Crime Suppression Division police, said 50 cyber policemen are working with frontline agencies in collecting information on criminal activities of these call-center gangs. Wildfires rage across northern Thailand

The north of Thailand is grappling with a surge in wildfires, with 401 hotspots detected across 17 provinces, the Region 3 Forest Fire Control Center said. Fishing ban off Prachuap Khiri Khan coast starts tomorrow

A fishing ban has been issued to allow fish stock to recover off the coasts of Prachuap Khiri Khan down to Surat Thani, says the Department of Fishery (DoF). The ban is issued over two periods — from Feb. 15 to May 15 and from May 16 to June 14, affecting multiple maritime zones.
