New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern

Thailand’s recent tax regulation changes have sent ripples through the expat community. By March 2025, foreign retirees and other expats in Thailand will be required to file income tax returns for the 2024 tax year, marking a significant shift in the nation’s approach to taxing foreign residents.

Announced by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin in October 2023, the new tax regime aims to widen the tax base to address the fiscal challenges posed by Thailand’s aging population. Heavy rains on way but less than 2023

The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) has warned of heavy rainfall from August to September due to the impact of the La Nina phenomenon, but the total amount of rainfall this year is expected to be 26% below average.

178-Feet Drop Caused Injuries on Singapore Airlines Jet

Rapid changes in the gravitational force led to a 178-foot (54-meter) altitude drop of a Singapore Airlines flight that left two passengers dead and many others who were not buckled up injured in extreme turbulence last week, a preliminary investigation by Singapore’s Transport Ministry said Wednesday.

A 73-year-old British man died of a suspected heart attack and dozens were injured after the Boeing 777, which was flying from London’s Heathrow airport to Singapore on May 21, ran into turbulence that hurled people and items around the cabin. A second passenger dies later in hospital. Continued …

Kangaroo in Chiang Mai – no, really

Yesterday, a kangaroo was spotted at the entrance of Doi Suthep, slightly past Wat Sisoda, in Chiang Mai province, according to a video shared by CM108 Chiang Mai News. The marsupial was found around 8:20 am, causing quite a buzz among social media users.

Since the post was shared, several comments have poured in from users sharing their reactions. Some suggested the kangaroo must’ve escaped from a nearby zoo, while others expressed concerns about the animal’s safety, worrying it might be hurt in a traffic incident or be harmed by someone. Thai real-estate market slumps in first quarter

Real estate showed signs of crisis in the first quarter, with sales and transfers all negative. In the first three months of 2024, the Thai real-estate market experienced a sales decline of 25%-30%, marking the lowest point in six years.
