Thailand was ranked the sixth best place for expats to live and work, according to the Expat Insider 2024 report from InterNations, the global community for people who live abroad.

PWA Warns of Fraudulent Water Bill Scams

The Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) has warned the public of scams involving water supply bills, where barcodes or QR codes redirect transactions to fraudulent bank accounts.

Customers are advised to ensure their bills do not have stickers or paper covering the original details and to verify the receiver’s account name before making any payments, which should only be directed to official PWA accounts. Continued …

June inflation sees big drop

Thailand reported a month-on-month drop in inflation in June to 0.62 %, compared to 1.54% in May, a decline attributed to the end of the low base impact of electricity costs from the previous month, Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, director of the Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO), said on Friday. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose year on year to 108.50 in June, up from 107.83 in June 2023.

The prices of fresh food items increased at a slower rate due to favorable weather conditions for cultivation after the extreme heat had passed. Other goods and services had minimal impact on inflation. Continued …

Residential market contracts in Q1

Thailand’s residential market index in the first quarter of 2024 dropped for the sixth consecutive quarter, plunging to a low point post-pandemic as GDP growth slowed to 1.5%.

Cannabis set to return to illegal drugs list after vote

A committee tasked with controlling illegal drugs has won a majority vote to have cannabis and hemp reclassified as narcotics, and the listing will take effect on Jan. 1 of next year, according to Dr. Surachoke Tangwiwat, deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Public Health.

Thai Domestic Travel Plummets, Only 57% Plan Local Holidays

A recent survey has unveiled a sharp decline in domestic travel intentions among Thai citizens, with only 57% planning holidays within the country for the third quarter of this year. This marks a significant decrease from 64% in the previous quarter and a steep fall from 74% at the beginning of the year.

Conducted by the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT), the survey encompassed 450 Thai nationals earning over 10,000 baht per month. Tourists flocked to Wang Nam Khiao’s first durian café in Nakhon Ratchasima, eager to sample 38 varieties of the fruit amid cool, rainy weather. The Ploenchit Durian Garden, located in Ban Khlong Sai Village within Wang Nam Khiao district, saw a bustling atmosphere throughout the day.
