Rotary Club 14th Amateur Charity Golf Nov 29

The Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin will hold its 14th Amateur Charity Golf Classic Friday, Nov. 29 at the Pineapple Valley Golf Club – formerly known as Banyan Golf Club.

The Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin has been helping local and regional causes since the club was founded in 2010 and has raised millions of Thai baht to improve the quality of life for underprivileged communities in Thailand, as well as education projects in other developing countries.

The group’s flagship project is the Children’s Water Safety & Drowning Prevention program that has been running for the last three years, and has taught over 600 children from 10 schools in Hua Hin not only to swim, but also to recognize the dangers of water and how to rescue others who may need life-saving assistance. Another key project was the purchase of a much-needed ambulance for Hua Hin Hospital costing 2.5 million Thai baht.

PM assures Mae Sai flood victims of government support

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra trudged along a muddy road and waded through floodwater yesterday to visit and comfort victims in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai, which is suffering the worst flooding for three decades.

During a visit to the first Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, to see the damage caused by the now receding floodwater, the prime minister was seen hugging an elderly woman and assuring her that flood victims will not be abandoned. Continued …

Mekong overflows in northeast, floods receding in Chiang Rai

As flood water steadily recedes in Chiang Rai province and flights by some airlines at the Mae Fah Luang airport have resumed, people living along the Mekong River in Loei, Nong Khai and Bueng Kan provinces were bracing for the river to overflow.

In Mae Sai district, several riverside communities, such as Koh Sai, are still submerged by overflows from the Sai River. A number of people remain trapped at home by strong currents and are awaiting help and food from relief workers. Continued …

Rain-induced landslide in Mae Fa Luang Claims 4 Lives

A deadly landslide yesterday struck the Mae Fa Luang district in Chiang Rai, claiming the lives of four people, including an 8-year-old girl. Over 150 houses were damaged , leaving the community in shock and grief.

The event occurred in the Maemao Village, Thoet Thai subdistrict, where a massive landslide engulfed homes, one of which belonged to the family of young Sunattha, a local child who tragically lost her life. Continued …

Phuket on high alert as heavy rains and flash floods loom

Phuket is bracing for a weather onslaught as officials sound the alarm over impending flash floods, mudslides, and hazardous sea conditions. A stark warning has been issued by Gov. Sophon Suwannarat, through the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center, urging all local officials to prepare for extreme weather set to batter the island this week.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) predicts torrential rain and fierce waves through next Tuesday, Sept. 17. Elderly Man Killed in Encounter with Wild Elephant in Kanchanaburi

In a tragic incident yesteday, a 71-year-old man lost his life after a sudden encounter with a wild elephant while riding his motorcycle in Kanchanaburi. The incident occurred on Highway 3199, in the Sri Sawat District.

Phaitoon Intraboot, head of the Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary, reported that the incident took place in the early morning. Local residents alerted wildlife officials stationed at the Mae Lamun Protection Unit that a villager had been severely injured by a wild elephant. Needy to get first Bt10,000 handouts from Sept 25

The government will begin offering stimulus handouts to 14.5 million needy people starting from Sept. 25, which is expected to help lift economic growth to 3% this year, according to the Ministry of Finance.

Payment platform development for digital wallet scheme scrapped

The Digital Government Development Agency (DGA) has called off its plan to develop a payment platform for the “digital wallet” scheme, after no one expressed interested in bidding bid for the project.

There was previous a report that three companies were interested, but none of them entered the bidding, prompting the DGA’s cancellation of the plan. The Finance Ministry has already changed the payments to cash, a standard bank transaction, for about 14.2 million disabled and vulnerable Thais, starting on Sept. 25. Continued …

US-China trade war ‘net win’ for neutral Thailand

The China-U.S. trade war will create more opportunities for Thailand, Commerce Minister Pichai Naripthaphan said on Friday. Pichai mentioned in a government policy statement that the new administration will benefit from the ongoing trade war between the two superpowers, both of which are allies of Thailand.

He said 150 billion baht has been invested in the nation’s printed circuit board (PCB) industry over the past year. He expects that number will rise to hundreds of billions of baht, or even a trillion baht, which would attract several PCB firms to the country. Continued …

Yesterday, the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD), in collaboration with officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), launched the second phase of their “Clearing Chinese Supermarkets in Bangkok” operation.

Thailand faces heavy to very heavy rainfall from today to July 18, which may cause flash floods and forest runoff, especially in Bangkok. The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for the entire country.

Police shut down 224 Euro 2024 gambling sites

Police have shut down over 200 websites involved in Euro 2024 football-related gambling, with 2.4 billion baht in circulation, according to the police. The interior minister has now signed off on the latest immigration rules, which will permit citizens of 93 countries to obtain a visa-exempt 60 days on entering Thailand by land, air and sea. 17.5 million foreign tourists visit Thailand in 6 months

According to the statistics of Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports on international visitors during the first six months of 2024 (from Jan. 1 to June 30), Thailand welcomed 17,501,283 foreign visitors. It could generate from their expenditure of approximately 825 billion baht (US$22.5 billion).

The top nationals traveling to Thailand were from China, Malaysia, India, South Korea, and Russia, respectively. The final week of June alone, when the Pride Month 2024 events were held in various areas of the country, attracted 659,830 foreign tourists, an increase from the previous week, with only 19,083 persons. Government to allow sale of alcoholic beverages in tourist trains

The Transport Ministry has come up with a plan to allow sales of alcoholic beverages in trains in a bid to stimulate tourism, starting with tourist trains. Sale of alcoholic beverages had been barred at train stations and in passenger cars since 2015.

Deputy Transport Minister Surapong Piyachote said on Sunday that the amendment aimed to offer new train travel experiences to tourists. Allowing alcohol sales in tourist trains would help meet the demand of travelers, he added. Continued …

Two brothers from New Zealand who were facing multiple charges after an assault on a police officer in Phuket are back home after spending nearly four months in detention in Thailand.

Luxury resort project on Samui faces demolition

Authorities suspended a Chinese-owned luxury resort project on Koh Samui after finding out the property was not being built according to its permit and was taller than the law allowed.

Police Maj. Gen. Watcharin Poosit, commander of the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division (NED), said on Sunday that officers of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and Koh Samui municipality raided the site of the “Anzhu Seamate” project in tambon Maret in Surat Thani’s Koh Samui district on Saturday. Boat capsizes in storm off Thailand’s Phi Phi island, Chinese tourists rescued

Two Chinese tourists and a Thai were safely rescued after their boat driven by the Thai man capsized in a rainstorm and hit waves in Ao Nang bay in Muang district on Sunday morning.

The incident happened near Phi Phi Le island in tambon Ao Nang at about 11am when people on a speedboat belonging to Narayana Marine Co. were able to rescue a Chinese man, a Chinese girl and a Thai boat driver. Continued …

Speedboat rescues 12 tourists from sinking boat near Pattaya

A dramatic rescue unfolded between Koh Larn and Pattaya City after the passenger boat Tara Jade experienced a sewage pump failure, causing it to take on water. The boat was carrying 12 Thai passengers — five men and seven women — when the incident occurred.

Speedboat operators quickly responded to the emergency, with Ed Chankrajai, the driver of the speedboat Yodtong, leading the rescue. As seawater poured into the stern of Tara Jade, Ed instructed everyone to put on life jackets. Laos shopkeepers not accepting Thai baht

Attracting a lot of attention in Thailand is Laos’ #SaveLaoKip campaign to protect their currency, with Laotian shopkeepers no longer accepting both Thai baht and other foreign currencies but, if necessary, they will give the foreigners a lower rate than that officially set.

Many shops in Laos have kicked off this campaign to only trade in their currency kip and not accept Thai baht. An example is one shop announcing that they will not accept any foreign currencies, with those coming in with Thai currency only getting 30,000 kip for 100 baht. South Korean tourist arrivals expected to reach 1.94 million this year

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is upbeat that South Korean tourist arrivals this year will reach a record 1.94 million, higher than the pre-Covid 1.88 million.

Pattanapong Pongthongcharoen, director of the TAT office in Seoul, said that the negative sentiment among Thai tourists, who have boycotted South Korea, had not affected the desire of South Korean tourists to visit Thailand. Continued …
