US lovers of Thai food could win a trip to Thailand – and Hua Hin

The Thai Trade Center in New York recently announced a campaign, inviting people in the U.S. to share their love of Thai cuisine on social media for a chance of winning a trip to Thailand, worth up to US$5,000.

The campaign, called “Love Thai Food, Eat Thai Rice,” aims to promote Thai Hom Mali Rice in the U.S. market through the social media handle @EatThaiRice. The prize package includes a trip for two to Thailand, with an airfare credit of US$2,000, a 2-night stay and dinner for two. ‘Dementia Cafe’ opens in Hua Hin

Hua Hin municipality has officially launched the “Dementia Cafe” project, designed to support individuals with dementia and their families.

The project aims to strengthen relationships between dementia sufferers and their families through engaging activities in a coffee shop setting. Held from July 8-10 at Baan Talay Dao Resort, the initial training session included 29 elderly participants and various officials. Shooter surrenders after killing Cha Am vendor in dispute over 200 baht

A man surrendered to police early today after allegedly shooting a seafood vendor in a dispute over 200 baht borrowed from the victim.

Thawatchai Chiamdee, 24, known as Phai, was shot dead in his pickup truck on a road in Ban Hub Kapong Soi 3, Moo 8, Khao Yai subdistrict, on the evening of July 11. Continued …

Few hours of heavy rain inundates Pattaya

Several roads in the popular seaside town of Pattaya were under nearly two meters of water after the town was hit with more than an hour of torrential rain on Thursday morning.

64 Thai sex workers arrested in Malaysia

Malaysian immigration authorities have rounded up 88 foreigners, including 64 Thais, in a crackdown on sex activities at three locations in Ipoh city. The crackdown took place at a hotel and two entertainment outlets suspected of offering sex services on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Perak Immigration Department Director Meor Hexbullah Meor Abd Malik said the detainees comprised 78 women and 10 men, aged between 21 and 46. Of the detained, 64 were Thai nationals, while the others were 13 Vietnamese, four Nepalis, three Indians, three Bangladeshis and one Sri Lankan. Continued …

Security measures have been intensified in Yala as police respond to intelligence reports about insurgent movements, prompting an increase in patrols and checkpoints to ensure safety, particularly in urban areas, to reassure both residents and tourists.

Finance Ministry Pushes 99-Year Leases for Foreigners

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira confirmed the government is moving forward with a project to allow foreigners to lease condominiums for 99 years, aiming to stimulate the real estate sector, which has over 200,000 unsold units.

Pichai on Wedensday gave a keynote speech and special discussion on the topic “Developing Sustainable Real Estate.” He acknowledged that the real estate business is currently facing issues with over 200,000 unsold condominium units. Doubts cast on central bank’s GDP forecasts

Thailand’s GDP growth is unlikely to increase in the second half of this year as anticipated by the central bank, according to the newly appointed chairman of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), the state planning agency.

Speaking after a seminar held on Thursday entitled “Surfing a Sea of Opportunities Amid Geopolitical Tides”, hosted by Kiatnakin Phatra Financial Group (KKP), Supavud Saicheua, chairman of the NESDC and an adviser to KKP, said the tightening monetary policy of the Bank of Thailand’s (BoT) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has impacted access to loans for individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as increasing financial costs for borrowers. Consumer confidence slips again in June

Thai consumer confidence dropped for a fourth straight month in June, falling to its lowest level since October last year on concerns over a global slowdown and political uncertainty, according to a survey carried out by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC).

Thanavath Phonvichai, president of UTCC, said the consumer confidence index dipped to 58.9 in June, from 60.5 in May. Consumers were increasingly worried about a global economic slowdown, rising energy prices, and a prolonged conflict in the Middle East. Continued …

FTI disappointed by new power plan

The state plan to reduce biomass and biogas fuels in the new power development plan (PDP) has disappointed the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), which wants the authorities to maintain or increase their proportion to make better use of agricultural waste.

Though the PDP, scheduled to be enforced from 2024 to 2037, promotes greater use of renewable power, the plan emphasizes solar energy, with less focus on biomass and biogas contributions. Continued …

The United Nations (UN) has praised Thailand for its success in achieving the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Suttipong Juljarern.

Myanmar Conflict Escalates, Thai Companies Pull Out

The ongoing conflict in Myanmar between the military government and opposition forces shows no sign of abating. Fighting continues in several areas and has prompted Thai companies to pull out and divest 7 billion dollars.

In the past, Thai investors ranked third in investment promotion applications with a total value of 11.6 billion dollars, or 12.47%, in 155 approved projects. Currently, Thai investment in Myanmar ranks fifth with a value of 4.45 billion dollars, with 105 projects underway.
