Squid and Seafood Festival Aug 9-11

The 2024 One-Sun Squid and Seafood Festival is set to take place from Aug. 9-11 at Laem Kade, on the beach front in Pak Nam Pran. This annual event returns after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The festival’s signature attraction is the “one-sun squid,” renowned for its unique taste. Squid from Pak Nam Pran is celebrated for being naturally sweet and tender, a result of the freshwater from the Pranburi River flowing into the sea and enriching the marine environment with plankton. The National Water Resources Committee on Monday approved a comprehensive three-year water-resource-management plan that would require about 500 billion baht to fund floods and drought prevention measures nationwide.

Bangkok Gov. Chadchart Sittipunt on Monday ordered urgent action to prevent the capital’s slums from flooding amid forecasts of heavier rain due to the La Niña phenomenon. Chadchart told Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officials to urgently survey flood-prone slums and come up with preventive measures.

Health warning issued for Thai milk tea drinkers

The Thai Department of Health issued a health warning to avid Thai milk tea drinkers about the risk of developing kidney stones due to the high sugar, calcium content, and compounds found in tea leaves.

Kidney stones are formed when minerals in the urine crystallize, creating hard stones that can range in size from a grain of sand to a ping-pong ball. BOI eyes Southern Economic Corridor for investment opportunities

The southern land bridge megaproject will proceed as planned, as several companies from China, the United Arab Emirates and the United States have expressed their interest in investing in the project, the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy Planning (OTP) said yesterday.

The registration for the 10,000-baht stipend under the digital wallet program officially commenced on Aug. 1. This stipend is set to be available for use in the fourth quarter of this year, with the aim of stimulating the economy. The program is expected to inject 450 billion baht into the economy, benefiting 45 million digital wallet users in Thailand.

The scheme is expected to trigger four economic “whirlwinds” that will revive the manufacturing sector and restore confidence in the Thai economy.
